Are Low Carb Diets Actually Good For You?

9 June, 2020 by Sahar Ajjab

You must have definitely heard about low carbohydrate diets. In fact, this diet is trendy are world famous. Low carb diets are all based on the same concept, ketosis. A state that occurs when we greatly reduce the intake of carbohydrates in favor of fats. But is it actually a good thing for you? Here is what you should know about this common diet-style.

What is Ketosis?

Ketosis is the state in which the body does not have enough hydrate reserves, and begins to use fat as a “fuel”, generating ketone bodies as a result of the process. A “waste” that our kidneys have to filter. To achieve this state, it is necessary to reduce carbohydrates to less than 50 grams a day for several days.

Once you go into ketosis, you will see how urine become a little darker and, at first, and some headaches sometimes. So if you begin to notice these ”symptoms”, there is nothing to worry about, you are on the right track.

How Do Low Carb Diets Work?

As long as you don’t have kidney or liver problems, there should be no problems starting ketosis, with a low carbs diet. However, it’s always a good idea to talk to your doctor and monitor the process. Because each person’s body can react differently.

Although if you are careful and in a good health-state, you should be fine. Moreover, after the initial phase and headaches, you are likely to have more trouble sleeping, stay alert and feel less hungry than before.

So, Is It Good For You?

That being said, usually, low carbs are a good and easy remedies for burning calories. In fact, if you do it correctly, you are more likely to lose weight rapidly. But be careful, because this happens with all diets. Since the important thing is to maintain a calorie deficit. If you start one of these diets but eat a lot more calories, you are going to get fat, there is no doubt about that. For this reason you should not think of this type of diet as something magical, yet, one more way to reach your goals.

You can try them if you are curious and they may work for you, but they are by no means a replacement for exercise and long-term healthy habits.
