Burn More Calories With These Exercises (No Running Required)!

1 July, 2019 by Taylor Swift

If you’re tired of running in the heat or using the treadmill, but don’t know of other exercises that have the same impact for burning calories, look no further.

There are plenty of exercises that can get you sweating and torching calories in no time. When considering to try out any of the following exercises, it’s important to consider what your fitness goals are, and to hit the cardio in a healthy way. This means not over exercising simply to lose weight– there are many other reasons to work out, and having a healthy balance in life is key!

That said, these are some great ways to burn calories this summer- no running required!

Jumping Rope

Jumping Rope is a true full body exercise that, when done properly, can have you torching up to 125 calories in 10 minutes! According to Livestrong, if you jump rope at a high intensity for 10 minutes, that “is the equivalent of 30 minutes of jogging.” Not only are you saving time, but there are even multiple jump variations to mix up your routine, like double-unders, high knees, and single leg skips. The key is to make sure you are skipping at a rate of 120 RPMs to really work up a sweat and burn the calories. That pace puts you at about two jumps per second.

Rowing

Although it would be optimal to be able to go out rowing in a lake, for most of us that’s not feasible. Luckily, this exercise is just as effective at burning calories when done at your local gym. A 155 lb person can burn on average between 520-632 calories from this rowing, targeting your back and legs in the process.

Kickboxing

Kickboxing has gained a lot of popularity the past few years, with many studios dedicated to the sport popping up around the world. And with good reason- kickboxing classes can help you burn up to 800 calories in one hour long workout! Kickboxing isn’t just killer for melting the fat– it’s also a great stress reliever and a form of both Aerobic & Anaerobic cardio. Meaning, it helps to improve the function of your heart and your lungs.

Swimming

What better way to beat the heat and burn some calories, than swimming in a nice cool pool this summer? Depending on your ability and intensity, swimming can burn anywhere from 528-892 calories an hour. That upper end also includes varying up your stroke- and yes, that means some shoulder-blasting butterfly! No wonder Michael Phelps was known for chowing down on 12,000 calories a day… This cardio-calorie burn is no joke!
