Football Is Coming Back And This Is The New Calendar

17 June, 2020 by Sahar Ajjab

Football fans all over the world are thrilled to welcome football back. After a three-month suspension of the biggest leagues and championships, expect to see lots of football games this summer. Furthermore, several competitions chose to end their season like the French league (Ligue 1.) Luckily, the Spanish, German and premiere leagues are set o resume, with a new calendar.

What’s Coming Up?

Good news: There is a busy schedule coming up. La Liga in Spain started with an interesting classic clash between FC Sevilla and Real Betis. Moreover, both Real Madrid and Barcelona won their games this weekend, with only 3 points difference, that will make the remaining 11 fixtures highly competitive. Of course, we expect to see a fight-til-the-end for both teams to win the championship.

As for English football, the premiere league is set to return on June 17th. For the moment, all returning games are to be played without fans until further notice.

The Champions and Europa Leagues To Be Played In August

Remember how we were dying to watch the return leg of Manchester City and Real Madrid? Well, brace yourselves, because that’s happening in August. Yes, UEFA is planning to dedicate the month of August for both the UCL and Europa League rounds. However, this new calendar is introducing plenty of changes. First of all, there are talks about making quarter-finals and semi-finals a one-leg round. This excludes the visitor’s advantage and relatively, a second chance for teams that has always ended in tuning tables.

So, What About Next Season?

In addition, this is not the only change to be made in the new football calendar. Since this season will supposedly reach its official end in August (after the UCL final), which is usually around the time when players start their pre-seasons. However, this year, all involved players are getting their holidays, and then reuniting for a very short prep period, before initiating the new season. Also, the fixtures’ calendar of next season will be tight, in order to make it to the EURO championship (which was postponed from this summer to the next one, due to Coronavirus.)
