For many of us, having long commutes and work days makes it hard to fit in a full workout or feel motivated to hit the gym. However, there are multiple ways to get fit throughout the day, even with a very busy schedule. Time to throw out the excuses once and for all and get in that daily burn!
Use The Stairs
If your office building or apartment is not on the first floor, try taking the stairs instead of the elevator. This small measure can make a big difference over time, burning calories and working your leg muscles. Although it’s not the gym, you at least know you are putting in some extra effort in your day.
Take Advantage of Your Lunch Break
Most jobs require employees to have a 1-2 hour lunch break. While you should definitely be sure to get food in your system as well, this time can be great to get in a short workout. You can sign up for a gym close to your job, or even take a brisk walk around the area. If you have a day that’s more busy than normal and have to work during lunch, you can bring a set of weights or bands to your desk and multi-task from there!
Go To A Fitness Class
When you don’t go with a planned workout in mind to the gym, it’s easy to waste many minutes not knowing what to do. Sign up for a workout class, and they do the thinking for you. You can easily fit this 45 minute to hour long session in a busy schedule!
Switch Up Your Commute
If feasible, try walking or biking to work (and pack a pair of work clothes in a bag to change in to). This is also a great way to reduce emissions affecting the planet! If your job is too far away, you can instead get off the bus or metro one stop earlier, to make you get in more steps in your busy day.
Avoid The Couch
If you typically watch the news or a series after you get home from work, skip the couch and instead try doing a workout simultaneously while in front of the tv. You can easily do light body weight exercises or abdominals while also enjoying your show. It’ll make the time fly by!
