Replace your gym routine with 3 minutes of daily workout

11 July, 2019 by Isabel Okhuijsen

We all hate having to continuously go to the gym, whether you’re a fitness freak or do it for fun, sometimes we just don’t feel like going. We often end up going anyway because we feel like we have to or we don’t want to break our routines. No pain no gain. But what if we told you there’s an easier way?

Put into perspective

We bring you the 3 minute workout: 180 seconds to get in shape. But how much really is 3 minutes? It might take three minutes for you to park, or even just go to the store and buy something. All of us have 3 minutes to spare at some point during the day. So, how does it work?

How it works

The theory behind this 3-minute-method is fitting an high intensity workout into a very short period of time. The Australian physiotherapist Kusal Goonewardena researched it and concluded that doing three minutes of intense exercise equals half an hour of a moderate gym routine, which is what the OMS recommends on a daily basis.

It equals an half an hour workout

Apparently, you can reach your daily objectives, and even obtain an 85% of your maximum capacity by carrying out the simplest exercises: jumping, running…

However, what the idea behind the 3-minute-method really is, is that if you start at 3 minutes, your body will end up wanting more and more, meaning you will want to increase your workout time without even realizing. In other words, as you improve your physical condition you’ll start increasing your workout time, and the intensity will slowly decrease.

HIIT workout

What these 3 minutes will lead up to in the end is a HIIT workout: High Intensity Interval Training, which is a great cardio training that leads to incredible weight loss. Want to give it a try?
