This is why you should start a strength training

16 January, 2020 by Ángel Fernández

Strength is one of the main points when it comes to the gym. Not only because you can show off in front of your friends, but also because it’ll have an effect on other areas in a lot of ways. Many people don’t know it, but if you start a strength training program, every aspect of your life will become better.

You will get stronger

Obviously, if you start a strength training you will start to gain strength (if done properly), that’s a no-brainer. But the thing you’re missing here is all the benefits that improving strength has over your life. For starters, you will start to sit properly. This is a side effect of developed back muscles. Which will reduce back and neck pain over the time.

Also, becoming stronger will make some house chores like carrying the groceries or moving stuff around much easier.

The best way to lose some weight

If you hit the gym (or plan to do so) chances are you want to lose some weight. And that’s OK. And everyone keeps claiming that, in order to lose weight, you need to do a lot of reps with light weights. That is not only wrong, it’s actually bad for you.

And if you start a strength training, you’ll start to move heavier weights. And that will make your muscles activate a lot more that rising the lightest dumbells in the gym a million times. So, in addition to the strength gains, your body will burn a lot more calories.

See results in less time

Some trainings take months to reflect actual progress. When training strength, you’ll most likely raise weights on a weekly basis. This will not only let you notice the areas which need more work, but also will motivate you every week to out-lift yourself.

This may seem stupid, but this little thing will keep you hooked on your trainings for a while. Making easier the hardest part of any training, commitment. Reducing the times you would rather stay home and watch some Netflix, and instead go workout.

Preventing flaccid skin

The worst part when it comes to lose weight is the aftermath. You went trough hell to get in shape and when you got there you find yourself with some ugly flaccid skin. That can happen when someone lose a lot of fat in little time or when there is nothing to “fill” the space the fat left.

If we are one of the latter cases we’re lucky. Because that has a solution (not an easy one though). We can regain our smooth skin if we “fill” it again. How? Putting some muscle where it used to be fat. Something the strength training is great for.

This is especially true if you have never trained with the intention of getting muscles. Because that will be the best case scenario to “fill” the flaccid skin. If you have worked out and gained some muscles, the effects will be still good, just not that effective.
