5 Good Reasons to Workout On Your Period

30 November, 2019 by Sahar Ajjab

When it’s that ”time of the month”, it’s really hard to do anything. All you want is to curl up in bed, cry and eat tons of chocolate. Although it is good to relax on your period, did you know the actual benefits of workout on your period? In fact, ladies, exercising may just be the solution we were all looking for.

Relieves The Pain

One of the main reasons why we hate leaving the bed on our periods, is the pain. the horrible cramps, and the irregular estrogen levels make it impossible to walk, let alone workout. However, studies show otherwise. In fact, workout on your period increases blood circulation, and lowers stress levels, which are the main reasons we feel menstrual cramps so much.

Makes You Happier

Eating 3 packs of chocolate will eventually make you smile, but at what cost? Besides the amount of calories you have just gained, binge eating comfort food on your period only makes it worse. If you try working out, your body will release natural happiness hormone, called endorphins. in addition to reducing the pain, they will give you an instant positivity boost.

Reduces Fatigue

Fatigue comes from the body being exhausted from all the inside-work it has to do on your period. Nevertheless, and although you will need extra rest during your period, workout on your period is actually a remedy for fatigue. In addition to endorphins easing headaches and back pain, they also help you feel in shape and less tired.

Regulates Periods

Nicola Rinaldi, author of “No Period. Now What?” found out that women who exercise frequently (and keep doing so on their periods) have less chances of having irregular periods. Training and hormones have correlated in terms of regulating periods, with or without the use of contraceptives.

Provides Strong Gains

Strong core

According to a study done by the Umea University in Sweden, women who exercised during their period had significative stronger gains than women working out any other time of the month. Apparently, to work out during the first two weeks of your cycle can result in greater power and strength gains, as well as a greater increase in lean muscle mass.
