Hitting the gym or working out from home won’t get you the results you want, without a balanced diet on the side. Just like there are recommended post-workout foods, there are others you should be careful with consuming pre-workout. Moreover, due to intense physical activity your body goes through when exercising, certain foods can actually be an obstacle for your body to process the training session well. According to fitness and nutrition experts, here are 5 types of foods you should never eat before hitting the gym/ working out.
Dairy
Dairy products are a good source of calcium, protein and magnesium. Although foods like eggs and cheese make great post-workout alimentation, since they provide your body with the energy it lost during the workout sech. However, consuming dairy before exercising is a no-no. In fact, the high-fat content they include will increase your stomach’s acid content, and therefore make you feel gassy and bloated.
Refined Sugar
We all love us a good brunch before hitting the gym. However, a balanced breakfast before working out should include little amount of sugar and carbs. Mainly, because they cause your body to feel lethargy and fatigue, and therefore, affect your maximum gains of the workout session. However, glucose or healthy sugar found in fruits is actually good for you. And before starting your exercise routine, they can provide you with the energy you need to keep going.
Spicy Food
Big meals are generally advised against before a workout. Moreover, spicy food is one of the hardest types of food for your body to digest. So, they require more time for the process to be completed. Not only that it makes you feel tired quicker, but also can lead to increased cramping, which makes more vulnerable for workout-injuries.
Cruciferous Veggies
Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts may seem light and healthy, but they are foods you should never eat before hitting the gym. Cruciferous vegetables should be included in your dietary program. However, the fact that they are high in raffinose, and indigestible carbohydrate make them a bad choice before working out.
Fiber Foods
Fiber-filled foods such as whole-grains bread or pasta definitely make you feel fuller, but don’t eat them before working out. Actually, just like spicy food, they are a bit harder to digest for your body, and if your workout schedule is intense, you may end up suffering from gastrointestinal distress or nausea.
