Have you been logging in many hours in the gym, and yet still don’t see any difference in your muscles? It can be an extremely frustrating process, however you shouldn’t give up! The real reason you aren’t gaining muscles could be due to the following factors, all of which are easy to change!
You’re Just Going Through The Motions
Are you actually pushing yourself every time you go to the gym, or are you merely going through the motions of different exercises? If you’re not using a weight that makes you feel that burn, you probably are not exerting yourself enough to get a true workout. And no, lifting a higher weight is not going to make you bulky overnight.
The safest way to increase the weight is by going up 5 lbs at a time for arms and 10 lbs for legs. Work your way up each gym session to a point in which you feel you are pushing but not to the point you have bad form. You’ll be surprised how much you can lift!
You Aren’t Training Consistently
Are you only hitting weights one or two times a week? This isn’t enough repetitions for your body to have consistency and show improvements. When hitting the gym, try to vary what muscles you do each session as well, that way you don’t overtrain and potentially cause injury or stress to the body, setting you even further back.
You Don’t Train The Right Muscles
Are you working the same muscles each session? Do you only do exercises that focus on limited muscle groups, such as bicep curls? To get full body results, you should aim to do compound exercises which work your upper and lower body simultaneously. You’ll burn more calories and fat with these exercises as well.
You Don’t Put In The Work Outside The Gym
Your workout doesn’t stop once you leave the gym! It is important to refuel with the proper nutrients, like protein and carbohydrates. Otherwise, your muscles can’t properly rebuild after “small tears” in a workout. Sleep is also a crucial factor for rebuilding muscles and giving your body proper recover. Otherwise, your body won’t see the results you have been working hard for!
