Although summer vacation is the perfect time to relax and not do anything for a couple of days, it doesn’t mean we should stop moving altogether. Exercise is fundamental for our health and we shouldn’t forget about it, even if we are on a trip. There are many ways in which we can make moving easier. We give you 5 tips to stay fit even on holiday.
Leaving your routine behind
Throughout the year we tend to adopt certain routines that perfectly combine with our lifestyles and responsibilities. Summer vacation is the perfect moment to break out of this routine and innovate a bit. These changes will help you get rid of the sense of monotony, which will take away the boredom from exercising. Because once working out becomes something we have to do, rather than something we enjoy doing, we end up feeling bad about doing it and usually quit in the end.
During the summer the weather improves and other types of sport come into play: beach volleyball, surf or kayaking are examples of what other activities you could be enjoying. Plus, a great tip is carrying it out during the mornings, as temperatures tend to be lower.
Find your space
When on holiday, try to find your “working out space“. It should have the right characteristics to allow you to exercise efficiently and without any annoying obstacles. For example, if you like to go for a run, find a specific park or promenade and make it “yours”. You don’t even need super big spaces, a bit of creativity and imagination will go a long way. Make the most out of your trip!
Find the right company
If you go on a trip it’s most likely you’ll be visiting touristy places with friends or family, always in a group. The same goes for exercising. It’s much better to work out accompanied! Training with people has many benefits for both you and them: you’ll obtain better results and it’ll be more fun.
Plus, it’ll help your socialization skills and you’ll mood will be improved. The best part is discovering different sceneries you will be able to enjoy together. Make it a key part of your trip!
Mind how you eat
During these hot summer days it’s essential you take care of your hydration: drink lots and lots of water, especially during the hotter hours of the day. Dehydration can have serious consequences. It will lower your strength and stamina, which is why it’s important to drink both before and after working out.
Water-rich foods, like fruit, yoghurt and veggies, are fundamental for our bodies’ health. In addition, in case you are lacking any type of vitamin or mineral help yourself with food supplements. Always ask your doctor first.
Make the most out of your time
Working out during the holidays does pose an extra responsibility you have to take care of. You need time, space and energy to do it, which we oftentimes lack during a trip. This is why you mustn’t forget vacation is the time to relax and have fun, so don’t be to hard on yourself. If you don’t achieve the goals you had set, don’t worry too much about it. Resting is also a necessity, and you shouldn’t feel guilty about it.
