Fail-proof tips to exercise regularly

18 July, 2019 by Isabel Okhuijsen

Exercise

Making a habit out of exercising can often become a challenging task. Whether we feel like we don’t have the time, or we’re just feeling tired, working out is a must. And although we oftentimes do feel like it’s impossible for us to get going, there are various tips you can follow to turn exercise into your best friend. Making it a regular is key.

Change your perspective

It’s essential you start by changing the way you look at exercise. Don’t make it a task you have to fulfill. If you look at it with a negative view you will only accomplish losing motivation, and will end up quitting. Instead, try to look at it as if you had a sort of date. Would you cancel on meeting up with a friend? Probably not. Make your gym time feel like spending quality time with someone. That way, you’ll be more likely to actually want to be there.

Leave your gear in plain sight

Workout gear

If you wake up and the first thing you see are your exercising clothes, you will have working out in mind all day. It’s a good idea to wake up and immediately start working out, especially if you already start the day with the lingering idea in your mind. You’ll be more likely to want to do it immediately. Plus, if you start the day training you’ll get it out of the way and you won’t have to worry about it anymore.

However, if you don’t have time in the morning, that’s fine, too. But a great tip to keep yourself motivated is keeping some gym gear around the house. For example, leaving a kettlebell in your bathroom, or some weights around your room. This will keep you thinking about working out and you will end up doing it as well as feeling good about yourself.

Make a workout out of your daily habits

Jogging

If you’re excuse for not working out is that you don’t have time, you have to realize that to want is to succeed, and there’s always a way around. For sure, you have moments of for example walking home from your work. These are habits you can’t go around, so turn them into your workout routines. Instead of walking home from work, go for a jog. This way, you’ll exercise and at the same time you’ll feel like you’re not losing time. Efficiency is key.

Keep track of your workouts

Posting your workouts online can be a great motivator when it comes to exercising regularly. The support you can obtain from an online community will keep you going, and every time you post about training you’ll receive lots of encouragement. This will make you feel good about yourself, and you’ll be more likely to keep going.

Online community

On the other hand, forming an online community can also create some pressure onto going to the gym, because they can potentially hold you accountable, which is something you probably don’t want to face. It’s a little encouragement for you to keep going to the gym.

Get you some fitness-friends

Not going alone to the gym can really make a difference. Make friends that are just as “dedicated” to the gym as you’d like to be. That way, you will be more motivated to go instead of feeling like it’s a chore you don’t want to do. Plus, it’s efficient time management: you’re socializing while working out.

Fitness-friends

Training with friends can improve your mood, which will in turn improve the way you feel about going to the gym. Bonding with people who have similar interests is a great recipe for a long-lasting friendship. People who get fit together stay together.
