Foods You Should Be Eating Post Workout

1 September, 2023 by Sahar Ajjab

Workout are a great form to stay in shape, and keep a healthy body. However, workouts alone can’t get you the results you want. Nutritionists have proved that a healthy diet is as important to stay fit. Nevertheless, knowing what to eat post workout can sometimes be tricky. The body is affected by physical activity, and your body tries to rebuild after workout. So, without further ado, here are suggestions of foods you should be eating post workout routine.

Proteins For Muscle

Exercising usually lowers protein in your body, because it triggers its breakdown. Therefore, you must get back a significant portion of protein after you finish working out. The adequate amount of protein will let your body recover the amino acids, that help strengthening the muscles. For that, you can have Chicken, Salmon, Eggs, tuna and maybe a protein bar if you are in a hurry.

Carbs To Speed Up The Recovery

In addition to protein, your body also burns a lot of carbs during the exercising routine. Because your body retains glycogen and use it as a fuel during physical activity. Eating the right amount of carbs after working out will push for proper glycogen resynthesis. Therefore, you should consider having foods like sweet potatoes, green leafy vegetables, pasta and even chocolate milk for your sweet tooth. It is recommended to wait half an hour though after your workout to consume such products.

Fat Is Not All Bad For You

Thinking that all fat is bad for you is a common mistake. In fact, your body needs the good fats from certain foods, and even more post workout. According to a study, when ingesting a high-fat meal (45% energy from fat) after working out, muscle glycogen synthesis was not affected. Good fat include dried fruits, nuts and avocado to supply your body with the right nutrients.

Drink A Lot Of Water

Drinking water is essential so that your body functions well. Besides the good effects it has on your skin and digestion system, you also need it after a workout. As you sweat a lot, your body gets dehydrated quickly. Furthermore, exercising also makes you lose electrolytes through sweat. Recovering the amount your body needs post workout requires you to drink plenty of water, during the whole day.
