How To Maximize Your Workout In Zumba

16 September, 2019 by Taylor Swift

Zumba is the Latin-inspired dance workout that has over 12 million fans around the world. If you’ve never attended a class, we can guarantee you it is no ordinary dance class. In Zumba you alternate a mix of slow and fast paces, which help to tone your body and lose weight. However, as with every workout, there are tips and tricks to ensure that you are truly getting the most out of it. You’ll be dancing your way to a more sculpted you with these tips!

Lose Your Inhibitions

The first Zumba class can always be very nerve-wracking. You might feel like everyone is staring at you and your (possible) lack of rhythm, but the reality is people go to have fun and get in a workout! They couldn’t care less if you misstep or lose the beat. What matters is that you enter that room feeling comfortable, because only then you can really get into the groove and start burning the calories!

Work Your Levels

Often times instructors will have you “change levels” by moving up and down through the dance moves from tip toes to low squat. It can be easy to not raise and lower with a noticeable change, but the frequent squatting will help to really get your legs and butt to feel the burn!

Emphasize Your Arm Movements

When focusing on your steps, you might forget to use your arms through the dance motions too. That said, you should try to remember to emphasize your arm movements by fully extending, lifting, and getting into the music. You’ll better tone your arms this way and also melt the extra calories. It’s a simple tweak that can provide lots of benefits.

Show Off The Zumba You Know

Whenever an instructor introduces a new step, or you haven’t quite figured out one of the moves, it can feel a bit frustrating. To combat the setback and still get in a good calorie burn, you should go all out on the moves you do know. You can even give your own flair to the dance move to keep you feeling motivated and working toward learning the new steps. At the end of the day, it’s your workout, so why not get the most out of it?
