Walking Vs. Running: Scientists Reveal Which Is Better

15 April, 2020 by Sahar Ajjab

Scientists finally reveal their answer to which is better: Walking or running? In fact, although both have really good health benefits for you, one could serve you more than the other to reach your goals. In addition, both are two great forms of working out, wether you are looking to loose weight, improve your health condition, or strengthen your muscles. So, if you are looking for a solid answer to this question, here is what experts have to say about walking vs. running for greater benefits on your health.

The Benefits Of Running

Health reporter Sarah Kliff, also trains for marathons quite frequently. In her opinion, running is the best way to stay fit, as it offers quick results. Furthermore, and according to research she has been doing, running or jogging proved to ”reduce the risk of death from cardiovascular disease and other causes.” In addition, people who prefer to exercise through frequent running, have higher chances to live longer than those who never go for a run.

However, running has its downside. According to research, running is an activity that has a high risk of injury. In fact, they found that  ”young men who run or jog had a 25 percent higher risk of injuries than walkers.”

Walking Everyday Is The Safest Form Of Exercising

As a consequence, many people prefer walking on daily basis over running. Scientists say that as long as you practice a physical activity enough times, you are free to pick what suits you best. Furthermore, since a healthy amount of jogging is 3-4 times a week, walking is something you can do everyday. As oppose to running having a high injury risk, walking is the safest form of exercising.

Several studies confirm that the more you walk, the better. Actually, walking around 1 hour a day strengthens your leg and butt muscles, in addition to extending your life and staving off disease.

So, Which Is Better For You?

In conclusion, scientists recommend you to do either activity, depending on your physical condition. Keeping in mind that running too much can put you at risk of injury, yet has larger health benefits that manifest themselves quickly. However, walking is safe, easy to do, and not as tiring nor risky. At the ned of the day, you don’t even have to choose walking vs. running. In fact, why not do both?
